Podcast artwork is often designed on a large canvas and viewed by listeners as a small image. A layout can look impressive at full size while its title becomes unreadable in a search result or queue.

Test the small version early

Export a working copy and view it at several small sizes on an ordinary screen. Check whether the show name remains understandable and whether one clear visual idea remains. Do not rely only on zooming out inside a design tool with an unusually sharp display.

Remove text that is not necessary to identify the show. A guest name, release schedule and long slogan may all compete with the main title. The show's description and episode notes can carry information that the cover cannot show clearly.

Compare light and dark surrounding backgrounds. The artwork may appear beside different interface colors, so the outer edge and main lettering should not depend on one preview background.

Validate the actual delivery file

After approving the composition, check the current destination's artwork specifications for dimensions, format and transparency. Apple Podcasts has separate guidance for show and episode artwork. A visually clear image still needs to meet the applicable technical requirements.

Open the exported file outside the design application. Confirm that the final image contains the intended version and no accidental guides or placeholders.

Keep the editable artwork source and the approved delivery file in distinct folders. If the show name changes, update the real source and repeat the small-size check. Enlarging a low-resolution thumbnail later will not restore detail that was never present in that file.
